Blackberry Smoke “Like An Arrow” Wheat Ale

Wheat Ale | ABV: 5.2% | IBU: 14

Asheville Brewing Company and Southern rock/country band Blackberry Smoke made a beer together. “Like an Arrow” blackberry-infused wheat ale is named for Blackberry Smoke’s new critically acclaimed album, “Like An Arrow.” The beer is hopped with Nelson Sauvin and Mosaic to balance out the sweetness of the blackberry infusion. Asheville Brewing’s brew team parsed out six different ways of hopping the beer in a blind taste evaluation. Nelson Sauvin, one of the most unique hops on the market today, imparts a white grape flavor, while Mosaic is one of the most versatile of earthy hops.

“The result is a great combo of hops and sweet blackberry with a little pop of wheat,” says head brewer Pete Langheinrich. “If you don’t typically think you like wheat beers, you should try this one. It’s easy-drinking but well-rounded and no one element of the beer overwhelms the other.”

A portion of proceeds from all sales of the beer will benefit the fundraising effort of the Shepherd’s Men on behalf of the SHARE Military Initiative at Shepherd Center in Atlanta, Georgia (the band’s hometown). The Shepherd’s Men annually campaign to raise resources and awareness for injured post-911 war veterans being treated for traumatic brain injury (TBI) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) at SHARE.

The 5.2% ABV ale will be released on Friday, February 3, at 5 p.m. at all Asheville Brewing locations on draft.

The 2024 edition of I9PA is bursting with vibrant hop aromas and is uniquely finished with Gelato hemp terpenes—completely free of THC and CBD. Join us on Saturday, September 21st, at Rabbit Rabbit as we celebrate the incredible fusion of Asheville’s cycling and brewing cultures. Cheers to community, craft, and cycling!

I9PA 2018- Tandemonium IPA

India Pale Ale | ABV: 7.9%

For the 5th annual collaboration with our homeys at Industry Nine we went all out and brewed two IPA’s. A big 7.9%er and a sessionable 5.1% version. We called these beers Tandemonium IPA and Tandemonium Session IPA. Both will be available on draft and in CANS!!

Tandemonium IPA

A full on hop-explosion of an IPA with intense tropical fruit aroma and flavor and an extremely low amount of bitterness. Hopped with Warrior hop hash and Motueka in the whirlpool and then dry hopped twice with Enigma, Motueka and Citra. A malt bill that includes plenty of flaked oats lays down a nice foundation of sweetness and smooth mouthfeel that accentuates all the punchy hops.

I9PA 2018- Tandemonium Session IPA

Session IPA | ABV: 5.1%

For the 5th annual collaboration with our homeys at Industry Nine we went all out and brewed two IPA’s. A big 7.9%er and a sessionable 5.1% version. We called these beers Tandemonium IPA and Tandemonium Session IPA. Both will be available on draft and in CANS!!

Tandemonium Session IPA

Pleasantly hopped with Idaho 7, Comet, Motueka and Mosaic this IPA sits nicely between hugely hoppy and perfectly refreshing. Citrus and tropical fruit dominate the flavor and aroma along with a touch of Honey Malt to round out an easy malt bill. English yeast ties everything together with a beer that we have been describing in the brewhouse as “too drinkable.”

i9PA Double IPA 2017

Double IPA | ABV: 7.5%

Asheville Brewing Company and Industry Nine Componentry have partnered again this year to create a delicious beer for a great cause. This year’s double dry-hopped i9PA is a bright, fruit forward IPA that’s smoothly palatable at 7.5 percent ABV.

This brew is aggressively hopped with bouquet of potent hops, including Galaxy, El Dorado, Azacca, and Equinox Lupulin, a super high oil content hop dust. The light and simple malt bill, including Pilsner malt, provides a clean backbone while letting the special hops shine.

In its fourth year, this collaborative brew will be released on Thursday, September 7, 2017, at i9’s annual event benefiting Friends of Connect Buncombe (building greenways and bike lanes in the region) and Asheville on Bikes (local cycling advocacy). The beer release and bike party will run from 6 p.m. until 1 a.m. at Salvage Station at 468 Riverside Drive. In addition to great food and beer, the night will feature live music by Eleanor Underhill and Bird in Hand, sick beats by DJ Jut Rut, a bike keg pull competition, and amazing bike gear giveaways. Admission is free.

“We are really stoked to have such a strong connection to supporting greenways and cycling advocacy. Both have been important to Asheville Brewing for many years,” says Pete Langheinrich, Asheville Brewing’s head brewer.

i9PA will be sold on draft and in limited quantities of 22-ounce bottles at Salvage Station and Asheville Brewing locations only. The beer will be released starting at 5 p.m. at both downtown and North Asheville Brewing locations on September 7 as well.

This is the first of four Asheville Brewing Unicorn Month beer releases in November.

Norwegian Forest Cat Double IPA

Double IPA | ABV: 8.4%

The Norwegian Forest Cat has a long and brooding history in the mythology of the Norse people. Nottoway River Rye Bock (collaboration with Deschutes Brewery)

Lager | ABV: 5.4% | IBU: 21 | SRM: 12

This pub-to-pub collaboration beer with our buddies at Deschutes Brewery was brewed with regional malts from Asheville’s Riverbend Malt House. It’s a cool, clean lager with a hint of spice from the rye malt and a slightly unusual hop profile. It’s hopped with Equinox in lupulin form. This “hop hash” provides a potent high alpha oil content that gives the beer a wonderful aroma but allows the flavors to meld smoothly with the malty backbone.

“This rye bock was a blast to brew–both in Asheville and out in Portland,” says Asheville Brewing head brewer Pete Langheinrich. “It was an honor to collaborate with such an amazing brewery on a beer that I absolutely love. Nottoway River is a great post work crusher!”

The Nottoway River is the river that defines part of the boundary line between the great states of North Carolina (home of Asheville Brewing) and Virginia (second home of Deschutes Brewery).

This beer is the perfect complement to our newest pizza special “The Bandit” which is only available at our Downtown Brewery.

Stump Mutts Pineapple Session IPA

India Pale Ale | ABV: 5%

Stump Mutts Session IPA, brewed with pineapple puree and a dose of milk sugar, is “a tropical punch of a beer,” says head brewer Pete Langheinrich. Perfect for summer drinking with a mild sessionable bitterness and lots of fruity notes.

About the Asheville band, The Stump Mutts

All rock, ever changing, and all original music rooted in sounds they grew up with. You’re likely to hear the shadows and echoes of wide ranging influences from… Nirvana and Stone Temple Pilots, to the Stones and Lenny Kravitz, to Social Distortion and Husker Du. Neal’s distinctive lyrics have been described as a haunting growl like a “an angel caught in an electrical storm.” His vocals lay nicely over his soaring guitar tone. In contrast, Derek’s hollow body crunch couldn’t be more different in tone, yet compliments this two guitar assault. John’s punk rock bass style rounds out the front of the stage, with his smirky grin and Buddy Holly glasses. Patrick lays down a straight forward rock rhythm with plenty of space for the songs to breath on his throwback blue sparkle kit. The live show is not to be missed. High energy, in your face rock with a stage presence that will make you dizzy. Knee slides, amp stands, impromptu covers, and solos in the crowd are the norm.

Put some danger back in your step

This beer won’t kick you…(not hard anyway). Chocolate, roasted, and crystal malts give flavors of hazelnuts and mocha. A bit of wheat make it a light-bodied beauty that’s easy to drink and easier to fall for. Put some danger back in your step. One of our brewpub classics that’s available intermittently.

Malts: Pale, Wheat, Munich, Crystal-40, Chocolate
Hops: Mt. Hood, Tradition

Tater Tart Saison

Saison | ABV: 5.4% | IBU: 23 | SRM: 3

In honor of National Comedy Month (April), Asheville Brewing is showing a series of classic comedies combined with special, small batch beer releases to provide the perfect drinking accompaniment for each movie.

In conjunction with the special showing of the cult classic, Napoleon Dynamite, Asheville Brewing will release a special beer, Tater Tart Saison. The movie will take place at our Merrimon Avenue movie theater on Thursday, April 27, at 7 p.m. The beer will be released on draft the same day at 5 p.m. at our downtown and north locations.

Tater Tart Saison is brewed with a Belgian yeast blend and a gentle malt bill of Pilsner, Vienna, and flaked wheat. It’s hopped with Centennial, Lemondrop, and Citra and then dry-hopped with Nelson Sauvin giving it a complex yet delicate aroma.

“This beer has a nice balance between tart, a touch of belgian character and delicious hoppiness,” says Asheville Brewing head brewer Pete Langheinrich. “There’s just enough pucker.”

The Cowboy Munich Ale

Munich Ale | ABV: 5.4%

Our take on a Munich Dunkel, but fermented with an Ale yeast instead of the traditional Lager, hence the “Munich Ale” style name. Beautiful deep copper color and rich notes of toast and figs balanced with a slight fruit character from the yeast create a perfectly drinkable pre-fall beer. This recipe was made after some collaborating with our talented kitchen staff who came up with a delicious Fall pizza, “The Outlaw,” to pair with this brew.

The Golden Hour

Hoppy Lager | ABV: 5.9%

This crisp gold hoppy lager is brewed with a trio of bold hops – Cascade, Centennial, and Chinook – that create a citrusy, piney aroma and flavor. The balance of malt and hops gives this lager a smooth and refreshing taste, with a mild bitterness that lingers on the tongue. The dry finish and medium body make it a perfect beer for any season, whether you’re enjoying it on a cold winter day, or in unseasonably warm March weather.

The Helping Friendly Nick

Blackberry & Blueberry Black Lager | ABV: 4.9%

We brewed this beer to celebrate the end of an era here at Asheville Pizza and Brewing as our multi-talented chef Nick Izzo is heading off to faraway lands.
A delicious black lager with blackberries and blueberries sends him off on the right note. The Helping Friendly Nick, it seemed, possessed the ancient secrets of eternal joy and never-ending splendor.
Come toast his future journeys with us!

This is Hazy, This is Hazy, This is Hazy Sacch Trois IPA

India Pale Ale | ABV: 7.4%

This unfiltered, fruit-forward IPA has assertive hop notes and a fluffy body. Select aromatic hops, including Galaxy, Citra, and Hallertau Blanc give this beer grape and stone fruit aromas and flavor. That’s balanced by a light, but bready malt bill, which includes toasted flaked and naked golden oats. At 7.4% ABV, this IPA can creep up on you. It’s gonna be a little hazy, y’all. Beware; you may make bad choices drinking this beer—such as jumping into a freezing cold swimming pool with someone who is not your wife.

This beer was brewed in celebration of the screening of National Lampoon’s Vacation  for our annual April Comedy Movie Month series at our Merrimon Avenue movie theater.  We show a different classic comedy movie each week, create a brand new beer for each movie, then let the public suggest names for the beers with our Head Brewer picking the winning name.

Trial By Stone Fruit Saison

Saison | ABV: 6%

Asheville Brewing’s Trial by Stone Fruit, a dark saison with black currants and tart cherries, was brewed to celebrate the showing of classic 1980’s movie, The Dark Crystal.

Triple Secret Probation IPA

India Pale Ale | ABV: 11%

This Triple IPA quickly puts you in a party mood. The brew delivers a dangerously smooth 11% ABV. It’s a bit of a throwback in hop profile, with a peachy, piney blend of Chinook, Simcoe, and Mosaic. “It reminds me a bit of those old-style West Coast IPAs,” says head brewer Pete Langheinrich. “Triple Secret Probation has just enough sweetness to stand up to the hops, but its dry enough that it’s not in any way syrupy.” As the highest ABV hop-forward brew that Asheville Brewing has created to date, this one will only be available in half pours. Despite what Blutarsky may tell you, this is not a beer to drink heavily.

This beer was brewed in celebration of the screening of National Lampoon’s Animal House  for our annual April Comedy Movie Month series at our Merrimon Avenue movie theater.  We show a different classic comedy movie each week, create a brand new beer for each movie, then let the public suggest names for the beers with our Head Brewer picking the winning name.

This peanut butter chocolate extra stout made is a special Halloween treat. It’s a full-bodied stout brewed with French Broad Chocolate cacao nibs and low-fat powdered peanut butter. Whalewolf is strong, but not overpowering, clocking in at 7.2% AVB.

Keller Pilsner | ABV: 4.7%

This crisp and refreshing keller pilsner style uses all locally sourced ingredients from our ridiculously talented friends at Riverbend Malt House and White Labs. Lagered to perfection for 10 weeks.

Zelda Gin & Tonic IPA (2020)

India Pale Ale | ABV: 7.0%

This sparkling, irresistible brew is our tribute to the 1920’s and to one of the decade’s classic cocktails. Brewed with juniper berries and dried lime zest, this fruit-forward 7.0% ABV beer is botanical and a little bitter-sweet.

Raise a glass to remember the promise of the past. Raise a glass to celebrate Zelda Fitzgerald, dubbed “the first flapper” by her husband F. Scott Fitzgerald. She was an icon of the era, capturing the exhilarating newness of the early jazz age. Cheers.

Zelda Gin and Tonic IPA

India Pale Ale | ABV: 8%

A sparkling bright, slightly fruit-forward, tribute to Zelda Fitzgerald as well as to the 1920s cocktail that’s still a classic today.  Our brew crew added dried juniper berries and dried lime zest in the boil, which gives this beer a little pineyness to balance the sweetness of the lime. Juniper berries, of course, are a primary ingredient in gin. The dried lime zest has a candy-like flavor and aroma, which Asheville Brewing head brewer Pete Langheinrich likens to “sucking on a green Jolly Rancher.” We also added some our favorite hops to this refreshing IPA, including Citra, Equanot, and Galaxy, while keeping the malt bill simple, with Pilsner malt and wheat. It’s a light, clean, sparkling cocktail beer with an 8 percent ABV.

Zelda Fitzgerald, wife of writer F. Scott Fitzgerald, lived in Asheville on and off for a few years as a psychiatric patient at Highland Hospital just north of downtown. She tragically died there in a fire in 1948. Zelda remains an iconic symbol of the vivid and heady world of flappers, cocktail bars, jazz, and fun in 1920s America. That’s what we’re striving to capture with this small batch brew.

Zillicoah Collaboration- Brett IPA

India Pale Ale | ABV: 8.9%

Our collaboration with our friends at Woodfin’s Zillicoah Beer is a Brett IPA.  The second half of a batch brewed with Zillicoah months ago was aged on a mixed culture of brettanomyces and microbes that passed on some delicious fruit-forward farmhouse flavor and aroma.  This brewery favorite is dry and supremely refreshing.
